Psalm 90 verse 12
Teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Time has a habit of running away with us doesn’t it! I sometimes wonder where the day has gone and if I think back over it – I can’t remember everything I’ve done. I don’t mean to waste time, but things come up.
I was reading an article recently that said Robert D Smith has written a book: ’20,000 Days and Counting’ which I understand from the article is about making every day count. It gave a link to a very interesting website: https://imrodmartin.com/mydays - worth having a look!
You can see how many days you’ve been alive and what age you were at various milestones. It’s fun and of course, I did use up a bit of my valuable time seeing how many days I’d lived! It was food for thought I must say. I really don’t want to waste my days now.
Rather than brood about time that has gone by, praise God for bygone days and those to come. Maximise every opportunity to walk with the Lord, optimise our health, enjoy life and have the energy to impact others. We are here on earth for a limited time, and this scripture advises us to live in a mindful way. Mindfulness is God’s idea! Prayer, praise, and gratitude are health giving activities instigated by God to give us the best quality of life possible.
Taking care of our health is a wise use of our time. John Maxwell in his book Daily Matters says,
“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.”
How true that is when it comes to healthy living! What we eat, the exercise we do, the time we spend with the Lord, how we help others, will all one day manifest in our lives. There are simple things that we can do daily to make changes easier. For example, have healthy snacks and water at hand, plan meals and exercise – five minutes can make a difference. Always review your vision for the future and deal with negative thoughts. I wouldn’t be able to manage without a to-do list either on paper or electronically.
Spending time wisely will be productive and satisfying. So, let’s invest in our daily lives now, so that later we can rest knowing that we have made the best use of our time.
Have a blessed day!
